We Made It!

As we sit down to write this there are fireworks going off all around us and mariachi music playing in the background.   We are seeing the tourist destination side of Rosarito this 4th of July weekend.  The beaches are packed and the streets are lined with food vendors and souvenir shops.  After driving around everyday this past week looking for a place to call home, we are becoming more used to our new surroundings.  Here we share the road with four wheelers, dirt bikes, horses, semi trucks, tractors, and pedal bikes. Praying for traveling mercies is a must as is Mexican car insurance! We had to cross the border on Friday, July 3rd to set up banking in Chula Vista and already the paper liner provided in US public restrooms and the ability to flush toilet paper seemed like a treat!

We’ve been staying at Sojourners Mission Base in Primo Tapia run by our friends Victor and Sonia Mayoral for the past week while house hunting.  Primo Tapia is about 20min south of Rosarito.  We are so thankful for their hospitality and for helping us navigate our new culture. A short term mission team of 30 were here from Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara last week and blessed us with fellowship, food, toiletries, a fan, animal bracelets for Elliana, and a pair of Nike Shoes for Aaron!  It’s kinda funny, but since we’ve arrived it’s as if Rosarito and Tumwater, WA have swapped weather forecasts! It’s been in the upper 90’s there and overcast and mid 70’s here!

After looking at what housing options are available to us to rent we have decided on a home in a gated community just north of Rosarito.   We found that while we can rent a house below our housing budget (which is very appealing) it is not a secure or safe option for our family. Today we found out that we’ll be living near the YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Base and already have a “friend of a friend” from Olympia Calvary to meet up with next week.   Robbyn has been asked to speak at a Women’s Conference coming up in September (with the help of an interpreter).  Aaron starts on staff this week at Calvary Chapel Rosarito.  He will be serving along side Youth Pastor Juan Carlos while attending the Church Planting School in addition to serving in  mercy ministries and outreaches in the community.

We are excited to welcome Harbor Calvary Chapel from Aberdeen, WA this month as they come down to serve the Rosarito area for their Mexico Mission Trip.
